A reverse osmosis system in Sydney costs from $1,180 installed, with annual servicing from $580.

That is Pure Essential, the four stage neutral system. Pure Plus, the five stage alkaline system, is $1,280 installed and $600 a year. Pure Premium, the seven stage hydrogen rich alkaline system, is $1,590 installed and $650 a year. Pure Luxe, the smart five stage system with the live TDS display, is $2,290 installed and $680 a year. Every price covers supply, installation under the kitchen sink by a licensed plumber, the chrome filtered drinking tap and GST, confirmed in writing before we start. The price hasn't moved. Our reverse osmosis systems help remove up to 99% of dissolved contaminants. The membrane works down to about 0.0001 micron, which helps reduce heavy metals, nitrates, PFAS and dissolved salts, and helps remove microplastics. Sydney's water is safe to drink. Sydney Water publishes what is in the supply, and it is treated for a whole city. Reverse osmosis is for what is left once it is safe: the taste, and the dissolved things a carbon filter alone does not touch.

One honest line. The membrane doesn't take chloramine out. The carbon does. Chloramine is the disinfectant Sydney Water uses across most of the city, and for that the answer is whole house filtration at the mains. Plenty of homes run both: the whole house system for every tap and shower, and a reverse osmosis system for the water they drink.

Mains water comes into the cabinet and passes through the stages in order. Five stage reverse osmosis. That's purified water on tap. No more bottles coming through the front door.

• Sediment. A five micron spun cartridge takes the grit, rust and sand out first.
• Carbon block. Coconut carbon helps reduce the chlorine, and with it the taste and the smell.
• The membrane. Water is pushed under pressure through a membrane with openings around 0.0001 micron. PFAS, microplastics, dissolved metals and salts are rejected and flushed to the drain. The purified water is stored in a small pressure tank beside the system.
• Alkaline. The good minerals go back in on the way to the tap. We remineralise, because minerals are good water.
• Carbon polish. One last pass before the tap.

Pure Essential runs four: the same sediment, carbon and membrane, then calcium and a coconut carbon polish in one finishing stage, for a neutral pH. Pure Premium adds stages after the membrane, a hydrogen rich alkaline stage, a ceramic stage and an inline conditioner, which is where its seven come from. Pure Luxe runs five in quick change cartridges inside a compact sealed case, with a booster pump, a leak sensor and a display that shows the TDS reading live.

Pure Essential is the neutral one at $1,180 installed: four stages, the same membrane, then calcium back in for a gentler pH, designed for about pH 7 to 8, on its own chrome filtered tap.

Pure Plus is the alkaline starting point at $1,280 installed: five stages, the membrane, and alkaline mineral rich water on its own dedicated drinking tap. It is the under sink reverse osmosis filter most people picture, and it purifies the water the same way the others do.

Pure Premium adds hydrogen richness and fuller remineralisation at $1,590 installed. Seven stages: the same purification, then a hydrogen rich alkaline stage, a ceramic stage and an inline conditioner. It is the one we compare against a year of bottled water above.

Pure Luxe adds live TDS monitoring in a compact smart unit at $2,290 installed. Quick change cartridges, a booster pump, a leak sensor and a display on the front that shows the TDS reading as you pour. The same membrane, with calcium back in to help balance the pH.

An under sink water filter in Sydney is fitted inside the cabinet, plumbed to its own tap, in about two hours. The system mounts on the cabinet wall or stands on its floor, the pressure tank sits beside it, and the drinking tap comes up through the benchtop or the sink. Installing a water filter under the sink is one visit: we arrive, fit it, run it, test it, and walk you through it before we leave.

We come back every year, replace the cartridges and check the system. That annual service is $580 for Pure Essential, $600 for Pure Plus, $650 for Pure Premium and $680 for Pure Luxe, and the price is published rather than quoted later. The cover is on the sealed system itself, the housings, the membrane housing and the manifold, with all of the plumbing labour, for as long as you stay serviced with us. Every system comes with a filtered water tap in chrome, and other finishes are $150. A premium dedicated filter tap is $480. A three way mixer replaces the kitchen mixer with one tap for hot, cold and purified water: the Classic from $500, the Deluxe at $680, or $800 in Brushed Brass, Brushed Bronze and Gun Metal, and the Premium pull out mixers from $1,050, with the Victorian at $1,150 and the Antique at $1,400.
