Whole house water filter prices in Sydney, from $3,850 installed
A whole house water filtration system in Sydney costs from $3,850 installed with Filters For You, with annual servicing at $770.
That is Pure Home, the stainless steel whole house system with three full size stages. Pure Home Reserve does the same whole home job in a powder coated stainless steel cabinet in 22 colours, from $5,150 installed, and it is also $770 a year to service.
Want purified drinking water at the kitchen as well? The Deluxe Home Package adds Pure Premium seven stage reverse osmosis and a premium three way mixer to Pure Home, from $6,290 installed. The Deluxe Home Reserve adds Pure Luxe reverse osmosis and a three way mixer to Pure Home Reserve, from $8,640 installed. Both Deluxe packages come with the first year of servicing free.
Every price covers supply, installation at your water meter by a licensed plumber, and GST, quoted in writing before we start. You can pay it off with humm, and if you want every system we fit side by side, read what a water filter costs to install in Sydney.
What a whole house water filter removes from Sydney water
Both our whole house systems help reduce chlorine and chloramine at every tap and shower, and take out the sediment in front of them. The good minerals stay in.
Sydney's water is safe. It is just not pure. Sydney Water treats it for the whole city, and most of Sydney is treated with chloramine, which is chlorine combined with ammonia so the disinfectant lasts the whole way through the pipe network. Chlorine gasses off. Chloramine doesn't. It's built to last the whole way through the pipes, so it's still there at your tap and still there in the shower.
The numbers are public. The NHMRC's Australian Drinking Water Guidelines set the taste and smell threshold for monochloramine at 0.5 mg/L, and Sydney Water's own quarterly quality reports show all seven chloraminated Sydney delivery systems running between 0.72 and 1.16 mg/L. Well inside the health guideline, and above the point where you can taste it. You're not imagining it.
Pure Home runs three full size 20 inch stages: 5 micron sediment for the dirt, rust and grit you can see, a 20 micron low pressure drop carbon block for chlorine, chemical taste, odour and VOCs, then 0.5 micron catalytic carbon for chlorine and chloramine.
Pure Home Reserve runs three cartridges and nine stages: three stages of grooved sediment, a coconut carbon block, then a five stage Hydro-Flow carbon cartridge down to 0.22 micron. It helps reduce chlorine, chloramine and VOCs, along with microplastics, PFAS and heavy metals such as lead. Filtration performance as published by the manufacturer.
Either way, this is a chemical reduction system built for Sydney, not a minerals one. Calcium and magnesium stay in, because minerals are good. The full picture of what is in Sydney water is on its own page.
Pure Home or Pure Home Reserve, which whole house system?
Both are fitted at the mains, and both help reduce chlorine and chloramine at every tap and shower. The difference is the cabinet and the stages inside it.
Pure Home is our stainless steel whole house system: three full size 20 inch stages finishing with catalytic carbon, from $3,850 installed. Pure Home Reserve sits in a 35 kg powder coated stainless steel cabinet with a key lock front panel, in 22 colours matched to the COLORBOND® palette, with three cartridges and nine stages down to 0.22 micron, from $5,150 installed.
Choose Pure Home for whole house filtration at our lowest whole house price. Choose Pure Home Reserve when the cabinet sits where people see it and you want it to belong with the home. Both are serviced every year for $770, and both are covered for life while you stay serviced with us.
The Deluxe packages, whole house filtration plus purified drinking water
The Deluxe Home Package is Pure Home, Pure Premium seven stage reverse osmosis and a premium three way mixer, from $6,290 installed, with the first year of servicing free.
A whole house system filters every tap and the shower. Reverse osmosis under the kitchen sink goes further for the water you drink, and a three way mixer brings hot, cold and purified water into one tap. The Deluxe Home Reserve pairs Pure Home Reserve with Pure Luxe smart reverse osmosis and a three way mixer, from $8,640 installed, also with the first year of servicing free.
After the free first year, servicing is $1,320 a year for the Deluxe Home Package and $1,350 a year for the Deluxe Home Reserve, covering both systems. If bottled spring water is what the family drinks for the year, that is around $4,470 for a family of four. See the Pure Premium page for the seven stages, and our taps and mixers for the finishes.
How does a whole house water filter work?
A whole house water filter is fitted at the mains, before the water reaches any tap. Every tap, shower and bath in the house runs through it.
The system sits on the incoming line straight after the water meter, so the whole house is behind it: the kitchen tap, every bathroom, the shower, the bath, the laundry, the dishwasher and the hot water system. Water comes in from the street at mains pressure, passes through the stages in order, and goes on into the house filtered. Nothing changes at the taps.
That is the difference between a house water filter and a point of use one. An under sink filter treats one tap. A mains water filter treats every outlet in the home at once.
Whole house water filter installation, what happens on the day
Whole house water filter installation takes two to three hours on a standard Sydney home. Jean-Paul Barbar fits it at your water meter, pressure tests it, and shows you the system before he leaves. NSW plumbing licence 461511C.
- Request your installation date.Choose your system above or call 0430 546 749. We confirm the home suits the system and give you one price for supply, installation and GST before anything is booked. Prefer us to see it first? Book a free assessment.
- Pick a day. Most Sydney installations are booked within the week. You get a reminder the day before.
- The install.Jean-Paul isolates the mains at the meter, fits the system on a short run of new copper with its own isolation valves, and connects the stages. The water is off for a short while and back on before he leaves.
- Pressure tested and flushed. The system is tested under mains pressure, the cartridges are flushed through, and the water is checked at the tap.
- The walkthrough. He shows you the system, the gauges and the valves, and the first annual service goes in the diary for twelve months' time.
Everything for the day comes with him: the system, the fittings, the valves and the tools. No subcontractors, no return visit.
What a whole house water filter costs to run, ten years in dollars
$770 a year to service Pure Home or Pure Home Reserve, published, not quoted later. The price hasn't moved.
One visit a year. We come back every twelve months, fit new cartridges, test the water and check the system over, and that visit is what keeps the lifetime cover alive. Over ten years Pure Home is $3,850 on day one and ten services at $770, so $11,550 in total for every tap and every shower in the house, which works out at a little over $3 a day. Pure Home Reserve comes to $12,850 over the same ten years.
No contract, and you pay per service when it is due. It is the same visit our water filter servicing Sydney customers get on every system we fit, done by the plumber who installed it.
Whole home filtration for a full house, every tap and every shower
One system at the mains and the whole home is behind it. That is whole home filtration in the plain sense: a full house water filtration system, not a filter on one tap.
A lot of families ring about the kitchen tap and end up putting the whole house system in for the shower, because that is where most of the water actually reaches you, and a filter on one tap cannot help with that. A water filter for the entire house helps take the chlorine and chloramine back out before the shower, the bath and the laundry as well as the glass.
People call this a few different things and they all mean the same job: a whole house filter, a whole home water filter, a house water filtration system, a household water filtration system, a mains water filter. Our reverse osmosis systems under the sink make the finest drinking water in the range. A home water filtration system at the mains is a different job: it helps purify everything before it gets to you.
What a whole house filter does for your hot water system and appliances
Everything plumbed into the house sits behind the filter too: the hot water system, the dishwasher, the washing machine, the ice maker and the garden taps.
The sediment stage is the one that matters here. Dirt, rust and grit travel down the street main whenever the network is worked on, and they end up in tap washers, mixer cartridges and appliance inlet screens. Taking them out at the meter helps protect your appliances and plumbing. The carbon stages then take the chlorine and chloramine out of the hot water as well as the cold, which is what most people notice first in the shower.
We are not touching the minerals. Calcium and magnesium are good for you and they stay in the water. This is a chemical reduction system built for Sydney, not a softener.
Whole house reverse osmosis, why we do not fit it and what we fit instead
We fit a whole house filter at the mains rather than whole house reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis strips the minerals and runs slowly, which suits one drinking tap and not a whole home. For drinking water we fit reverse osmosis under the sink and remineralise it.
There is a second reason, and it is the one people do not expect. A reverse osmosis membrane rejects by size and charge, and monochloramine is a small uncharged molecule, so it goes straight through. The membrane doesn't take chloramine out. The carbon does. A whole house reverse osmosis system would strip the minerals from every tap, run the whole home slowly, and still leave the chloramine to the carbon stage in front of it.
A whole house carbon system at the mains does the whole house job, and a reverse osmosis for drinking water system under the kitchen sink does the glass. Plenty of homes have both, which is what the Deluxe packages are. If you are weighing up whole house or under sink, or reverse osmosis or whole house, those pages walk through it.
Where the whole house water filter is installed, and how big it is
The whole house water filter goes outside, beside your water meter, on the incoming line before it enters the home.
Pure Home is a stainless steel enclosure a little taller than the three 20 inch housings inside it, with the pressure gauges on top and a cover that comes off for the yearly service. Pure Home Reserve is a 35 kg powder coated stainless steel cabinet with a key lock front panel, a gauge on every stage and a UV stable finish.
Each system is plumbed in with its own isolation valves, so the house can be bypassed in seconds if it ever needs to be. Front fences, side passages and garage walls are the usual homes for it, and both cabinets are built for outdoors.
If you are in an apartment or renting, a whole house system usually is not the answer and an under sink system is: see water filter for an apartment and water filter for renters.
WaterMark, NSF/ANSI compliant media, and the brands we fit
Pure Home is WaterMark certified, with filter media compliant to NSF/ANSI standards. WaterMark is the Australian plumbing certification. NSF/ANSI standards are international standards for water treatment media.
Pure Home is the HPF-3 by High Performance Filtration, an Australian whole house filtration system built for mains pressure and outdoor mounting. It is listed on WaterMark certificate 23247, and the certificates are on our WaterMark page. We fit it because three full size housings keep household flow up, and because we can still get every cartridge for it in ten years' time.
Pure Home Reserve is designed in Australia and carries a 10 year manufacturer warranty, alongside our lifetime warranty with annual servicing. We also supply and install Filter Systems Australia, Puretec, Zip and Billi.
Are whole house water filters worth it?
A lot of Sydney families put one in for the shower rather than the kitchen tap, because that is where most of the water actually reaches them. At $3,850 installed and $770 a year, Pure Home works out at a little over $3 a day across ten years, for every tap in the house.
The honest way to weigh it up is against what you would choose. Sydney's water is safe, and every chloraminated system in the city runs above the point where you can taste and smell it. How much chlorine is a safe amount to be washing your family in? Nobody chooses it.
A lot of people tell us their skin and hair feel less dry after a shower, and that the kitchen tap tastes like the bottled water they used to carry in. If bottled spring water is what the family drinks for the year, that is around $4,470 a year for a family of four, against $770 to run a whole house system, and it is on tap. Our best water filter Sydney guide compares every system we fit, by household and by budget, if you want the wider view.
Installed by Jean-Paul Barbar, NSW plumbing licence 461511C
Fitted at your water meter by Jean-Paul Barbar, NSW plumbing licence 461511C.
In NSW anything connected to the mains has to be installed by a licensed plumber, and Jean-Paul does every install himself. Filters For You is a Sydney service, based in Croydon Park in the inner west: no interstate call centre and no subcontracted install crew.
Every review we have on Google is five stars, and not a single complaint on file. You can read them before you call. To ask anything at all, contact Filters For You or call 0430 546 749. A person answers.
Whole house water filter warranty, covered for life while you stay serviced with us
Covered for life while you stay serviced with us. The annual service is what keeps the cover alive.
The sealed system, meaning the housings and the manifold, is covered for life, with every hour of the plumbing labour included, for as long as you stay serviced with us. If the sealed system ever fails, a replacement costs you nothing. That does not change in year three and it does not change in year thirty. No contract and no lock in. Pure Home Reserve also carries a 10 year manufacturer warranty. The full lifetime warranty is published in writing, so you can read exactly what is covered before you buy.
Whole house water filters for duplexes and new developments
Talk to us at frame stage and whole home filtration goes in with the build, not after it.
Tell us how many homes there are, where the water services sit and when the paths and gardens go in. We set each system's position before the landscaping is finished, and price every home in writing before anything is booked. Pure Home Reserve comes in 22 colours matched to the COLORBOND® palette, so each facade can have its own finish. If the project also wants purified drinking water in the kitchens, the Deluxe packages add reverse osmosis and a three way mixer.
Where we install whole house water filters across Sydney
We install whole house water filtration systems across Greater Sydney, in all thirteen districts, from the inner west out to the Hills, the Shire, the Northern Beaches and the south west.
Most of Sydney's drinking water starts at Warragamba Dam and is treated at Prospect, the largest plant in the network, and the chloramine that keeps it safe through the pipes is what these systems are built for. Pick your district for the local page.
Whole house water filters, answered.
The same answers we give on the phone, written down. If yours is not here, call and ask.
How does a whole house water filter work?
A whole house water filter is plumbed into the mains at your water meter, so every drop entering the home passes through it before it reaches a tap. Pure Home runs three full size 20 inch stages: sediment, carbon block, then catalytic carbon. Pure Home Reserve runs three cartridges and nine stages down to 0.22 micron. Nothing changes at the taps.
Does a whole house water filter remove chloramine?
Both of ours help reduce it, and in Sydney that is the job that matters most. Pure Home finishes with a 0.5 micron catalytic carbon stage. Pure Home Reserve runs a coconut carbon block and a five stage Hydro-Flow carbon cartridge, with its chloramine reduction as published by the manufacturer.
Does a whole house water filter remove fluoride?
Pure Home does not. Fluoride is a dissolved ion and it passes straight through carbon. If that is what you are after, a reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink is the one that helps remove it, and plenty of homes run both, which is what the Deluxe packages are.
Do whole house water filters reduce water pressure?
On most homes you will not notice a difference at the tap. Pure Home runs three full size 20 inch high flow housings with a low pressure drop carbon block, and Pure Home Reserve runs three 20 by 4.5 inch full flow housings on 25 mm lead free brass. The gauges show the pressure across the stages at every service.
Will a whole house water filter change how the water tastes?
Yes, and it is usually the first thing people say. Chlorine and chloramine are what you taste and smell in Sydney's water, and the carbon stages help take them out. The minerals stay in, so it does not taste flat. It tastes like water.
How long does a whole house water filter installation take?
Two to three hours on a standard Sydney home. The water is off for a short while and back on before Jean-Paul leaves, and there is no return visit. Most installations are booked within the week.
Do you need a licensed plumber to install a whole house water filter in NSW?
Yes. Anything connected to the mains water supply is plumbing work and has to be done by a licensed plumber. Jean-Paul Barbar holds NSW plumbing licence 461511C and does every install himself.
Does a whole house water filter need power or a drain?
Pure Home needs neither. It runs on your mains pressure, so there is no power point, no drain line and no waste water. That is one of the differences between a whole house filter and a reverse osmosis system, which does need a drain.
What size whole house water filter does my home need?
Both of our whole house systems run 20 inch housings sized for a normal Sydney household, which is most homes we see. On a larger home with several bathrooms running at once, or a shared supply, we check the flow rate and the meter at the free assessment and tell you before you book.
Can a whole house water filter run on rainwater or tank water?
Our systems are configured for Sydney mains water. Tank water is a different job: it needs its own sediment stages and usually an ultraviolet stage as well. Give us a call and we will tell you honestly what your supply needs.
Do you fit whole house reverse osmosis?
We fit a whole house filter at the mains rather than whole house reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis strips the minerals and runs slowly, which suits one drinking tap and not a whole home. For drinking water we fit a reverse osmosis system under the sink and remineralise it.
Can I have a whole house water filter and a drinking water filter?
Yes, and it is the setup a lot of families end up with. That is what the Deluxe packages are: whole house filtration for every tap and the shower, plus reverse osmosis and a three way mixer at the kitchen. The Deluxe Home Package is from $6,290 installed and the Deluxe Home Reserve from $8,640, both with the first year of servicing free.
What is the difference between Pure Home and Pure Home Reserve?
The cabinet and the stages inside it. Pure Home is stainless steel with three full size 20 inch stages, from $3,850 installed. Pure Home Reserve is a powder coated stainless steel cabinet in 22 colours with three cartridges and nine stages, from $5,150 installed. Both help reduce chlorine and chloramine at every tap and shower, and both are $770 a year to service.
Can you fit whole house filtration to a duplex or new development?
Yes. Talk to us at frame stage and we set each system's position before the paths and garden go in, then price every home in writing. Pure Home Reserve's 22 colours let each home have its own finish.
Can I pay for a whole house water filter over time?
Yes. You can pay it off with humm. See our payment options for how it works.
