What Does Water Filter Installation Actually Include?
When Jean-Paul Barbar arrives at your Sydney home, the fixed price you were quoted covers everything needed for a complete, working water filtration installation. That includes the system itself, all plumbing fittings and adaptors, the filtered water tap (where applicable), connection to your cold water supply, full system commissioning and flush, water quality testing before and after installation, and a complete walkthrough of how to operate and maintain your system.
There are no line items added on the day. The price you receive via phone or the website quote form is the price you pay. No call-out fees. No hourly rate surprises. No separate charges for the tap or the fittings.
Why Do Some Water Filter Installation Quotes Look Cheaper?
There are three common reasons a competitor's quote might look significantly cheaper than Filters For You's fixed prices, and all three represent a risk to you as a customer.
1. Unlicensed Labour
Any water filter installation that involves connecting to your cold water supply is classified as plumbing work under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011 (NSW). This work must be performed by a NSW Licensed Plumber. Unlicensed installation is illegal in NSW, voids your home and contents insurance (most policies exclude damage caused by unlicensed trades), and gives you no legal recourse if there is a leak or failure.
Jean-Paul Barbar holds NSW Plumbing Licence 461511C, which you can verify directly at NSW Fair Trading (fair.trading.nsw.gov.au). Always ask any installer for their licence number before booking.
2. System and Installation Quoted Separately
Many filter companies advertise system prices online without including installation. The advertised price looks low because it only covers the system, you then pay a separate installation fee, call-out fee and potentially a fitting fee on top. The final cost is often equal to or higher than Filters For You's all-inclusive price, but you only find out at invoice time.
3. Non-WaterMark Certified Systems
WaterMark certification is mandatory for plumbing products in Australia. A WaterMark-certified filter has been independently tested and approved for contact with drinking water supplies. Non-certified systems, often sourced cheaply from overseas, may use materials that leach contaminants into your water. All systems supplied by Filters For You carry WaterMark and NSF certification.
The Real Cost Comparison
When you compare prices, compare total delivered cost: system + installation + fittings + tap + call-out + GST. Filters For You publishes a single number that covers all of these. If a competitor shows only a system price, ask for the full installed price before making a decision.
What Affects the Price of Water Filter Installation in Sydney?
The fixed prices above apply to standard residential installations across Greater Sydney. Some factors can affect the final price for whole-house systems specifically, Jean-Paul confirms these during a free on-site assessment before quoting.
- System type: Under-sink and reverse osmosis systems are straightforward and priced as listed above. Whole-house systems can vary between $3,150 and $3,550 depending on property conditions.
- Water meter and mains access: Whole-house filtration requires installation at the water main entry point. Properties where the water meter is in a difficult location (under a slab, inside a cupboard, or with restricted access) can affect installation time and cost.
- Property age: Older homes with galvanised or aged copper pipework may require additional fittings or adaptors to ensure a proper seal. Jean-Paul identifies these requirements during the assessment.
- Under-sink space: Particularly compact under-sink cabinets in apartments or older homes may require the Compact system ($930) rather than a larger RO unit. Jean-Paul will recommend the right system for your space.
Under-sink, reverse osmosis and alkaline RO system prices are fixed regardless of Sydney location. There is no travel fee or premium for Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Western Sydney or any other area within Filters For You's service zone.
Annual Maintenance Costs
Filter cartridges need replacing on a schedule to maintain system performance and water quality. Jean-Paul offers annual servicing visits that include all replacement cartridges, system inspection, flush and performance test. Annual service pricing is as follows:
